Note: With the addition of update Beta v.1.4.6 torches now degrade while being held, regardless if they are being used in combat. The torch will occasionally slightly damage the player. (This was added to create a more realistic effect).
As the new boss Lurker was added into the game, torches can now also keep the boss away if you shine the torch in front of him. However, before running away, the boss would be stunned for a while, giving you the chance to damage him with your torch. If you switch to a weapon that is not a torch, the boss would get out of his stun and attack you.
Recycling
On the Recycler, a Torch can be recycled into a Common Log and Rope in 10 minutes and 1 second at an appropriate level of Melee Weapons recycling skill.
